Carl Winfield Slavin, aged 80 years, died at his home on Wednesday, July 8, 1959, after a long illness. A retired tinner and plumber he had spent most of his life in Pocahontas County.
He was born near Marlinton on December 15, 1878. He was the son of the late Winfield and Nannie Patterson Slavin. On
January 1, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss Ada Camden, of Marlinton.
Surviving him are his wife, Ada; one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Fickell, of Columbus, Ohio; three sons, Ray Slavin, of
Huntington; Frank Slavin, of Long Beach, California; Earl “Barney” Slavin, of Seebert; two brothers, Guy Slavin, of San
Antonio, Texas; Roy Slavin, of Marlinton; and six grandchildren. A son, Robert Slavin, preceded him in death in 1938.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home by the Rev. W.E. Pierce, pastor of the Marlinton
Presbyterian Church, in charge, assisted by the Rev. H.M. Pennington, Jr., pastor of the Marlinton Methodist Church.
Burial was made in the Mountain View Cemetery.
