Fred W Ruckman, of Mill Point died suddenly on Wednesday, July 2nd, 1958, of a heart attack. He had eaten his
breakfast and been around the house as usual that morning.
He was born November 6, 1882, at Mill Point, the son of the late Mathews and Mary L. Hogsett Ruckman. He married
Miss Alice Thaw, of Richmond, Virginia, who preceded him in death about five years ago.
Mr. Ruckman attended Fredericksburg College in Virginia, and was a graduate of Richmond Law School. He practiced law
in Richmond, Virginia, before returning to Pocahontas County in 1911 upon the death of his father, and had since been
engaged in farming. He had served several terms on the Pocahontas County Court. Very much interested in history he
had written a number of articles and short stories. He was a member of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, at Hillsboro,
but attended the nearby Marvin Chapel in his community.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Alice L. Arbogast; a son, F. Wilmer Ruckman; a sister, Mrs. Madge R. McClure, and a
niece, Miss Katherine R. McClure, all of Mill Point.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon, July 4th, at Marvin Chapel by his pastor, the Rev. Collier Harvey,
assisted by the Rev. L. E. Milem. Burial was made in the McNeel Cemetery, at Hillsboro.
