James Renick Ruckman, aged 86 years, died at his home near Millpoint, on Tuesday evening, November 4, 1947. He had
been in failing health for some time. On Friday afternoon his body was laid to rest in the Ruckman Cemetery, the service
being held from Marvin Chapel by his pastor, Rev A. J. Shrader, assisted by Rev Q. R. Arbogast and Rev. J. K. Fleming.
The deceased was a son of James W. and Caroline Arbogast Ruckman. His father was a Confederate soldier who died at
Richmond while being exchanged as a prisoner of war. Mr. Ruckman is survived by his half sister, Mrs. E. H. Patterson, of
Marlinton, and his half brother, George Scales, of Pullman, Washington.
Mr. Ruckman married Miss Minnie M. Smith, of Edray, daughter of the late Dr. Pleas Smith who passed away some years
since. Their surviving children are Mrs. Rachel Gum, of Millpoint, and Mrs. Leah Boggs, Marlinton. Another daughter
preceded her parents.
A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, Mr. Ruckman was active in church and community affairs. He had talent for
music and cultivated his gift for song. He was a good citizen and neighbor and we all will miss him.
