Willie Orin “Bill” Ruckman, 96, of Hemingway, South Carolina, died Thursday, January 6, 1994, in a Charleston Hospital
after a brief illness.
Mr. Ruckman was born in Mill Point January 23, 1897, a son of the late Millard Filmore and Eliza Jane Smith Ruckman.
There were six brothers and sisters, Daisy, Lee, Charlie, Ernest, Dennie, Ruth.
He was a retired farmer, former Sheriff of Pocahontas County and auctioneer for 32 years. He liked to hunt and fish. He
was in the Navy during World War I. Two months before he entered the hospital he received a commemorative medal of
the 75th Anniversary of the End of World War I. He was a member of Marvin Chapel Methodist Church and attended
Hillsboro High School.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Gum Ruckman, of Hemingway; two daughters, Jane R. Motto, of Poolesville, Maryland,
and Elosie R. Player, of Cheraw, South Carolina; three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and two step-greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, 1994 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Garden of
Devotion.
