Linda J. Winebrenner, 63, of Lewisburg died Sunday, March 1, 2009, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center following a short illness.

Born Aug. 2, 1945, in Falls View, she was a daughter of Betty Thompson Rhodes of Fayetteville, formerly of Gauley Bridge, and the late Wade O. “Punk” Rhodes. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Rhodes; and sister, Reanee White of Fayetteville; and grandparents, Rosico and Gertrude Rhodes of Rainelle and W.D. and Mickey Thompson of Falls View.

Mrs. Winebrenner was a member of Shuck Memorial Baptist Church, Lewisburg, having served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, chairperson of the Hospitality Committee, member of the Scholarship Committee; president of the American Baptist Women and associated with the Raleigh and Greenbrier County American Baptist Women. She was also a member of the Maxwelton Ruritan Club, having served as president, vice president and a member of the board of directors.

She held office in Lower West Virginia Zone 7 and was a member of the Scholarship Committee for the Ruritan Foundation. She was a former Boy Scout leader in Lewisburg. She also was a former executive secretary for the American Red Cross in Greenbrier County, a volunteer for many nursing homes in Greenbrier County and was vice president of Supportive Employment Services Inc., Lewisburg, which was for people with disabilities. Mrs. Winebrenner was a former member of the Greenbrier Democratic Women’s Club and was co-owner of Winebrenner Ceramics for 32 years.

She was a graduate of Gauley Bridge High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and a four-year member of the band, having been the first ninth grader elected to the West Virginia All-State Band.

Other survivors, besides her mother, are her husband, Clarence “Gene” Winebrenner of Lewisburg; sons, Todd, also of Lewisburg, and Darren of Neola; grandson, Korey Lemons of Lewisburg; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Bib” Rhodes of Fayetteville; brother-in-law, Maurice White of Rand; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at Shuck Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Miller and the Rev. Jim Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the men of the church and family friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Tuesday’s Ceramics members: Laura Sarver, Leona Corker, Susanna King, Patty Sampson, Mary Jirka, Vivian Longanacre, Sue Patterson, Betty Hefner and Margaret Hefner.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
