Julian H. “Abe” Phillips 89, Formerly of St. Albans, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Genesis Teays Valley Center in Hurricane.

Abe was born March 29, 1924 to parents, William C. Phillips & Bertha R. (Ruckman) Phillips in Boyer, WV.
Raised in Durbin, WV and graduating from Green Bank High School in 1942, Abe enlisted in the U.S.Navy, serving as Machinist Mate 3-Class in England and Ireland until the war’s end.
Graduating with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from WVU, Abe started his work career with Westinghouse Corporation in Fairmont, WV. He then moved to Front Royale, Virginia with American Viscose, then later to FMC Corporation Central Engineering in Princeton, NJ and FMC Corporation in South Charleston. In 1985, he retired from the FMC Nitro plant as Senior Project Manager.

Abe enjoyed cruising the world, which numbered over 45 cruises, WVU sports and woodworking, having made beautiful toys and furniture. He was a member of AF&AM Lodge 124 in Cross Lanes for more than 50 years.

In addition to his parents, Abe was preceded in death by sisters, Alma G. Applegath of Frankfort, KY and Agnes E. Arnett of Staunton, VA.
He is survived by his caregivers, Bill and Peggy Alexander of Hurricane, WV.

A celebration of Abe’s life will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2013 at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B Street, St. Albans with Pastor Art Hage officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 1:00 p.m. Monday until service time at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Arbovale Cemetery in Arvobale, WV.
