He was born September 5, 1920, at Mill Point, the son of the late Charles E. Gum and Rachel Wallace Ruckman Gum.
Mr. Gum was a farmer and a member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church. He served in the Army Air Corps in
World War II.

His wife, Mable L. Gum, preceded him in death, as did his sister, Kathleen G. Robbins.
Surviving him are his son, Alfred R. Gum, Jr., of Buckeye; a sister, Ruth G. Ruckman, of Selma, North Carolina; two
brothers, Charles Wallace Gum, of Oak Hill, and Max L. Gum, of Buckeye. His body was cremated.
